About Us

Shropshire Peer Counselling and Advocacy Services, or PCAS for short, was founded in 1995 by the Shropshire Disability Consortium. We provide a community based independent advocacy service for people with any disability, over the age of 18, in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

PCAS is a registered charity (Registered charity number 1187362) and is based in Oswestry, Shropshire. PCAS was set up by disabled people who recognised a need for individuals to be supported so that their voice could be heard.

Our team of advocates help our clients deal with isolation and to make their own informed decisions about their welfare. We work with our clients to make sure that their service providers (e.g. local authorities, housing associations, utility companies) honour commitments and do the things they promise.

We’re managed by a Board of Trustees who help PCAS to maintain its independence and be a free-to-use service for clients. The board holds a strategic role, having the responsibility to oversee effective governance and to ensure that PCAS meets its legal and charitable obligations. Our trustees have a variety of experience, interests and backgrounds and you can find out more about them on here.

Hearing loss is often a hidden #disability. We recently helped a client, to complete a review form for her PIP award. She was very worried about losing her income and our advocate helped her as there were no other agencies available that could support her face to face because of covid restriction. She has a hearing disability which makes phone calls difficult. By helping her gather her evidence and writing a supporting letter she is now continuing to receive her PIP and has even got an increased award for which she is very grateful. ... See MoreSee Less
