Amputee praises threatened Shropshire charity for being his lifeline

An amputee has praised a charity for providing vital support during some of the most difficult times of his life.

Robin, who lives in Shrewsbury, says he would have felt lost, lonely and afraid without the support of Shropshire PCAS. The Oswestry-based advocacy charity supported him with hospital appointments, including before and after major surgery to save his remaining leg.

The 54-year-old’s other leg was amputated, but doctors were able to save his remaining one.

“An advocate came with me for my initial appointment, and that was vital, as it is difficult for me to understand things, particularly after being told I could lose my other leg,” he said.

“I was so afraid on the day of surgery, but I was able to phone my advocate. It was a much-needed voice out of the darkness that helped me more than you can ever imagine. Shropshire PCAS has been an absolute lifeline,” Robin said.

As well as providing this support, the charity has helped Robin pay bills, apply for benefits, resolve housing and health issues, as well as opening post.

Shropshire PCAS’ support boosted Robin’s confidence so much he recently left the house for the first time in years, other than for things like essential appointments and shopping.

He said: “Because I was feeling better about life, I found the confidence to go out which has made a big difference to my quality of life.

“A huge thank you to PCAS for doing so much for me and for helping to make me feel so much better.”
